Check out some of our tried and tested tips.
1. Tea
A good way to decide which drink to pair chocolate with is to choose one that contains similar notes to chocolate - for example, tea. If you are a big fan, we recommend the following combinations:
- teas with fruity notes (especially citrus) are great when combined with chocolate with fruit;
- teas with more floral notes go well with dark chocolate with floral notes;
- teas with nutty notes are complemented nicely by chocolate with nuts or a hint of nuts.
Combining drinks and chocolates with similar flavours or notes enhances the taste of both, and of course you can experiment with opposing flavours :
- teas with a distinctive earthy aroma go well with dark chocolate with a floral note;
- teas with a slightly spicy flavour are exceptional when paired with milk or white chocolate;
- light teas are excellent with fruity or slightly bitter chocolate;
- fruit teas are complemented perfectly by dark chocolate.
2. Coffee
All you coffee and chocolate lovers will have tried this combination. When choosing which coffee to pair with a particular type of chocolate, you can, as with tea, indulge in the harmony of different flavours. Chocolate goes with everything - black coffee, coffee with milk, white coffee...
We have two tried-and-tested suggestions for you:
- espresso goes well with dark chocolate, caramel chocolate and chocolate with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg;
- black coffee goes well with dark chocolate.
3. Wine
After a hard day, nothing goes down better than a good quality chocolate and a glass of wine. A basic rule of thumb when pairing wine and chocolate is that the higher the cocoa content of the chocolate, the stronger the wine should taste . The following combinations are the most complementary:
- if you are a fan of bitter dark chocolate, you can pair it with a less sweet wine with a pleasant fruity aroma;
- milk chocolate is sweeter than dark chocolate and is best paired with sweet or dessert wines;
- white chocolate is extremely sweet, so its flavour comes out best when paired with a very sweet or dessert wine.
Wine lovers and lovers of great chocolate products will certainly not be able to resist chocolate wine. The red has hints of dark chocolate, the white has notes of sweet white chocolate.
4. Beer
Yes, you read that right; beer is on the list of 5 drinks that go well with chocolate! A drink that we usually associate with dishes like pizza or hamburgers, beer is also a great match for chocolate because it is just as complex as wine, if not more so. It is best to find the right balance between sweet and bitter flavours. Some people follow the advice that the beer paired with the chocolate of choice should always be sweeter than the chocolate, while others prefer to experiment with opposing flavours.
- Dark beers are great when paired with chocolate with a hint of coffee or with dark chocolate;
- light beers go well with medium bitter chocolate or chocolate with citrus notes.
5. Spirits
That''s right, these go well with chocolate too. Especially whiskies that have been kept for years inoak casks, which add a hint of caramel, vanilla, hazelnuts and fruit to the drink. You can further enhancethe flavour of a drink with any of these flavours with chocolate, which has the same flavour as the drink you have chosen.
We recommend a selection of spirits from our range that go perfectly with milk and dark chocolate.
