SugarSweet - a healthy sugar substitute

sugarsweet - a healthy sugar substitute

The sparrows on the rooftops are already chirping that eating large amounts of sugar is anything but beneficial for our health. But what if you could try an alternative and sweeten your favourite food or drink with a natural sweetener?

Unfortunately, sometimes what tastes good is anything but health-friendly. Sugar falls into this category, as experts increasingly link it to the risk of inflammation, type 2 diabetes, hypertension or high blood pressure and heart disease. But that doesn''t mean we have to give up sweet things! Fortunately, sweeteners are available to replace white sugar in both taste and texture, so that the difference is virtually unnoticeable. But you have to be careful when you buy them, too, because there are a whole range of them - natural, artificial, processed and you name it.

We advise you to choose natural sweeteners as an addition to your food and drinks. Sugar and artificial sweeteners put a lot of strain on our bodies, as they are more difficult for our bodies to metabolise and we consume fewer resources to detoxify all the chemicals we ingest from our food and our surroundings.

A healthy substitute for white sugar

Sweeteners are usually sweeteners that do not contain refined sugar (i.e. pure sucrose) or fructose syrup, which is used in the food industry as a cheaper substitute for sugar. Natural sweeteners are healthier than regular sugar because they are less processed, full of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, contain less fructose or glucose and have a lower glycaemic index (which means they do not raise blood sugar like other sweeteners).

Low glycaemic index

The glycaemic index measures how quickly food turns into blood sugar. Eating foods with a high glycaemic index (especially white flour and sugar) raises blood sugar, and elevated blood sugar is one of the main causes of degenerative diseases. It also causes inflammatory processes in the body and accelerates the formation of fatty deposits, especially in the abdominal area, thereby affecting weight gain.

What if you could try an alternative and sweeten your favourite food or drink with a natural sweetener?

Natural sweeteners such as SugarSweet are not only good tasting, they are also health friendly, as they have a glycaemic index of 0, which means that the rise in blood glucose is slower and steadier. Because they contain stevia and erythritol, natural sweeteners that are naturally present in plants, they can completely replace white sugar.

Stevia, a native shrub, is becoming more and more popular among people, but it is not really a new food, having been known in South America for hundreds of years. Stevia extract, which can be used as a food or drink additive, is about 100-300 times sweeter than white sugar. Unlike the latter, it has no noticeable effect on blood sugar levels and, despite its sweet taste, contains no calories. On the contrary, some studies have shown that it has a number of positive health effects: it can lower high blood pressure and blood sugar levels in diabetics, improve the body''s sensitivity to insulin, and reduce oxidised LDL cholesterol and plaque in the arteries.

Erythritol, also known as sugar alcohol, is extracted from glucose in the food industry through a natural fermentation process and, like stevia, has no energy value as it is calorie-free. It is found naturally in pears, grapes, watermelons and melons and is similar in appearance and taste to white sugar. As it does not affect blood sugar and insulin spikes, it is safe and suitable for use, but in appropriate amounts, as otherwise it may cause digestive problems.

There are many reasons in favour of natural sweeteners, but what we like most is the fact that natural sweeteners, which can replace white sugar in virtually any food or drink, do not harm your health. We recommend you try one of the sweeteners from the SugarSweet collection, which you can also choose from depending on the sweetness ratio of the product.
