Do you know the secret to a real tiramisu? Mascarpone! Most people use regular cream cheese, but to get the right texture, add mascarpone!
What is tiramisu anyway? Tiramisu is an Italian dessert made of biscuits soaked in coffee, arranged in layers and filled with a cream made of mascarpone and eggs. Born in Treviso, Tiramisu is one of the most famous Italian desserts in the world, delicious and easy to prepare.
There are many variations of the tiramisu recipe.
1. Sweet cream, eggs and mascarpone.
In any dessert preparation, we start by gathering the ingredients we need to prepare it. You will be familiar with the expression "Mise en Place", which means "Everything in its place". Not only does preparing the ingredients in advance speed up the preparation itself, it ensures that you really do have all the ingredients.
Before preparing the tiramisu, the eggs and mascarpone should be warmed to room temperature. If they are at room temperature, it will be easier to mix them together. You usually only need the egg yolks for tiramisu, so save the egg whites for a healthy omelette or meringue.
You will also need sweet cream. When whipping cream, it is easy to make a small mistake with big consequences. If you are one of those people who start whipping sweet cream at top speed, let me tell you, you are making a mistake. For the next whipping, start at the lowest speed and increase the speed over the next 10 minutes. This produces whipped cream that will keep for several days in the fridge and will not need gelatine to keep it firm.
2. How do I make a really good tiramisu?
Use the ''quick soak'' technique when soaking. A quick dip on the bottom and top is enough. If you soak the biscuits too much, the layers will almost certainly collapse.
Use a water bath to whisk the egg yolks and sugar. But make sure that when whisking the egg yolks and sugar, the bowl does not touch the water.
Don''t over-mix: when you fold the cream into the mascarpone, don''t over-mix the cream or it may become grainy.
Tiramisu keeps well, so you can make it a day or two in advance.
3. Can I make something besides the classic tiramisu flavour?
Of course! In addition to the classic flavour, you can also make tiramisu with white chocolate, raspberries and pistachios. Typically, a tiramisu consists of a layer of biscuits, a cream to which mascarpone cheese or sweet cream is usually added, moistened with a coffee mixture. This time, however, we''ve adapted the tiramisu recipe a little; we''ll add fresh raspberries between the biscuit base, mascarpone cheese for the cream and sweet cream and white chocolate. The flavour of the light cream is enhanced by the crumbled pistachios.
The combination of pistachio paste, creamy milk and cane sugar is just the right combination to create an absolutely delicious and creamy pistachio spread, which can be wonderfully incorporated into a pistachio tiramisu recipe.
It is a dessert in a cup, which is an adapted version of the classic tiramisu. It consists of three layers - a biscuit cream base, a middle layer of coffee pudding and a cream filling to finish the top. These are tiramisu cupcakes.
If you love Kinder Bueno chocolates, you can also make a Kinderbueno-misu.
