apple strudel made from puff pastry

Apple puff pastry is a variation of the traditional apple strudel, using a different type of pastry during the preparation. Puff pastry is famous for its slight sturcture and is made of layers of butter and dough, which are folded and rolled out several times to make many thin layers. When making apple puff pastry, it is usually made from ready-made or shop-bought pastry.

1. How to make apple strudel and puff pastry?

Apples are usually cut into small pieces and mixed with sugar, cinnamon and other spices to make a sweet and spicy filling. The mixture is then placed on puff pastry and the pastry is folded around the filling to form a rectangular shape. The edges of the pastry are usually pressed or rolled together to seal the filling inside.

The dough is then brushed with egg or milk and baked in the oven until golden brown and the filling should form small bubbles. The puff pastry apple strudel has a flaky, buttery texture and a sweet, cinnamon-spiced apple filling. It can be served warm or cold, and is often enjoyed with a dollop of whipped cream or served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

1
Preheat the oven to 190 °C. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle approximately 12 x 14 cm. Trim the edges to make them straight and even. In a bowl, mix together the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and breadcrumbs. If you choose to use the BAM Strudel and Pie Spice, add it now. Stir well so that all the apples are coated with the spices.
2
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the puff pastry, leaving about an inch of space around the edges. In a small bowl, whisk the egg and milk to make the egg topping. Brush the egg over the edges of the puff pastry.
3
Roll the puff pastry tightly into a circle at one end. Press the ends and edges together to seal. Place the apple strudel on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Brush the top with the remaining egg spread. Bake in a preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
4
Let the apple strudel cool for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing. If desired, sprinkle with icing sugar and serve while still warm.
