Preheat the oven to 175 °C and grease a 23 cm diameter cake tin. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs and BAM vanilla paste until well combined. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until well combined. Add the hot water to the batter and stir until well combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking tin and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the batter comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
