Ingredients:
- Puff pastry packet
- 70 g BAM vanilla cream mix
- 2 dl milk
- Lemon zest
- Cinnamon powder
Pastel de nata is a famous Portuguese dessert that has become a symbol of Portuguese cuisine.
Their rich history dates back to the 18th century, when they were first created in a monastery bakery in Lisbon. Today, they are found all over Portugal and are a favourite dessert among locals and tourists alike.
Making pastel de nata is an art, but with this simple recipe you too can enjoy the taste of an authentic Portuguese dessert right in the comfort of your own kitchen.
Preheat the oven to 220°C and prepare the muffin tins.
Roll out the puff pastry thinly with biscuit cutters and cut out circles.
Place each piece of dough in the moulds and shape it into cups with your fingers.
Mix the milk with the lemon zest in a small saucepan.
Gradually add the BAM vanilla cream mixture to the lemon milk and mix well with a whisk.
Leave the mixture to rest for 3 minutes, then stir again until you have the desired consistency of vanilla cream.
Spoon the cream into the prepared puff pastry cups, leaving a little space at the top.
When the pastel de nata are baked, remove them from the oven and leave them to cool slightly. Then sprinkle them with cinnamon powder.
Serve them warm or cold and enjoy the taste of an authentic Portuguese dessert.
