It''s not a sin to admit to yourself that chocolate is the thing that makes you feel better. It is even less a sin to admit that all chocolate is good. I tell you that it is not a sin that the chocolate you eat can also be healthy and therefore you do not need to have a guilty conscience.
I have prepared 5 destinations for chocolate lovers. Five of my favourite destinations that offer other chocolate experiences besides quality chocolate.
1. Chocolate Festival in Italy
The "Eurochocolate" festival takes place every year in the autumn, in October. It is the biggest sweet festival that attracts many visitors every year to the city of Perugia in Italy. Perugia is the birthplace of the famous chocolate candy maker Baci, which is why the festival has been held in Perugia since 1996. Each year, the festival has a specific theme that all the exhibitors follow. In 2019, the theme was dedicated to chocolate and cinema. Last year, exhibitors created life-size chocolate statues. They took images of characters from films such as The Nutcracker, Star Trek and some bravely chose the theme of La Dolce Vita. If you weren''t tempted to visit, maybe you will be now that I''m telling you that the leftover chocolate can be eaten by visitors! Will you be visiting it this year?
2. Switzerland, the land of chocolate
Watches, knives and, of course, chocolate! These are the qualities of the land of Switzerland. Swiss chocolate is also known as a landmark. Did you know that every village has its own chocolate shop? Maison Callier, Switzerland''s oldest chocolatier, is located in Broc, a village so unknown that if it wasn''t for its chocolatier, nobody would visit it. Take the elevator up to a multimedia display of the origins of chocolate, spread over nine rooms! First, you are taken back to the very beginning, to the Mayan and Aztec periods. Did you know that the Mayans and Aztecs drank chocolate as a beverage before going into battle? Another positive thing about chocolate. Then we board the sailing ship that brought the first bags of cocoa beans to Europe. Switzerland is a country where per capita consumption of chocolate is among the highest, even though cocoa beans were among the last to arrive. The visit lasts about an hour and a half and ends with each visitor making their own chocolate.
3. Spain, a popular destination
The first Europeans, the common soldiers who brought chocolate from South America to Europe in the 18th century, were the Spanish. In 2000, they opened a museum in the former Sant Agusti monastery, which they called the Museu de la Xocolata. The Chocolate Museum offers a journey through the origins of chocolate; its arrival in Europe, its medicinal and nutritional values and more. The museum is divided into eight different areas. Shop Cafe, where you can try chocolate as a hot or cold drink, accompanied by homemade cakes. You can also buy Spanish chocolates and other Spanish specialities. Cocoa and chocolate and a brief history follow, explaining how cocoa is made into chocolate and the historical origins of chocolate. You can also watch an audiovisual version of the whole process. Confectionery, creation and art are the areas dedicated to showing chocolate made into works of art through the hands of the best confectioners. You can also see the machines used to make chocolates. And with a reservation in advance, you can take part in a class to learn how to create chocolate.
4. Bariloche, Argentina: Little Switzerland and chocolate
Bariloche, also known as the chocolate capital of Argentina, is located in the south-western part of Argentina, close to the Chilean border. The town of "Little Switzerland", the work of the architect Ernesto de Estrada, is home to a number of chocolate shops, in addition to typical features reflecting the Swiss landscape. They can be found on Mitre Avenue, known to Argentinians as the "Avenue of Chocolate Dreams". Each chocolate shop has chocolate tasting sessions where you can taste different types of chocolates. Sounds great and interesting, doesn''t it?
