How to know when biscuits and cakes are ideally baked

how to know when biscuits and cakes are ideally baked

For every baked dessert, there is an optimum baking time at which it is ideally baked.

For every baked dessert, there is an optimum baking time at which it is ideally baked. Of course, this is very important for its taste, shape and appearance. This is also true for biscuits, brownies, cakes, so we''ve put together some tips to help you know exactly when your desserts are baked next time.

Biscuits

When baking biscuits, check the condition of the biscuits at the minimum baking time indicated in the recipe. As biscuits are not usually very thick, just one minute can make a big difference to them. As soon as they are baked, remove them from the baking paper on the baking tray, unless the recipe asks you to do otherwise. If the biscuits stick to the baking paper, this may be a sign that they have cooled too long on the baking paper.

When you lightly touch the biscuit with your finger, there should be almost no residue on the biscuit.

Thebiscuits are baked when they are firm and browned, which of course also depends on the recipe itself. When you lightly touch the biscuit with your finger, there should be almost no residue. For the right amount of browning, follow the instructions in your recipe.

Brownies

Brownies are finished when they start to pull away from the baking tray at the edge and the toothpick stuck in them is almost completely clean. If you don''t want your brownies to be dry, you can take them out of the oven when there are still some small dry particles on the toothpick and the brownie is slightly browned. Be careful not to take them out of the oven too quickly, of course, as the brownies may not yet be baked.

The cake-like brownies are done when they start to pull away from the baking tray at the edge and the toothpick stuck in them is almost completely clean.

However, if your brownies contain chocolate chunks, the toothpick should be observed more closely. If you have stuck the toothpick in the exact place where the melted chocolate is, the toothpick will be wet, which is not a sign of underbaking, of course. In such a case, it is best to take several toothpicks and stick them in different places.

Cake

The baking time is also extremely important for the cake batter. Nobody wants raw dough, but on the other hand, dry, lean dough is no good either.

To check the baked cake, two methods can be used. The first is the standard and very familiar method, which we have already mentioned for brownies, the toothpick method. A toothpick is stuck into the centre of the pastry to check how cooked it is. If the toothpick is still wet and there are bits of dough on it, then the cake is not yet baked. If the toothpick is dry, or if there are only a few almost dry pieces of dough, the cake is ready. It is good to know that, of course, a dry toothpick can also be a sign of over-baked dough, which can result in an unsavoury cake.

The second method is for those who are a little more experienced and requires only the palm of your hand. Open your clean palm wide and place it in the centre of your cake. Press lightly on the cake and if it does not bulge under the pressure and remains firm, then it is baked. Of course, if you apply a lot of pressure, the cake will crumble, which we don''t want, so as mentioned, this method is only for the slightly more experienced.
