How to make your own biscuit moulds?

how to make your own biscuit moulds

Read on for some different techniques you can use to make your own cookie cutters.

You''ve probably had the urge to bake biscuits for which you didn''t have the right mould. Especially on special occasions, when we want something a little different and all we have at home are heart-shaped, star-shaped and circle-shaped biscuits. Making your own biscuit moulds sounds complicated, but it can be easy. Read on for some different techniques you can use to make your own biscuit moulds.

Paper moulds

The first, and simplest, solution is to make paper cupcake cases. First print out the desired design and then trace the outline onto the baking paper. Cut out the mould with scissors and you''re ready to go. All you have to do is place it on the rolled-out dough and carefully trim the edges of the model.

Aluminium foil moulds

Another, equally easy option, are the aluminium foil moulds. For these you will need:

  • paper
  • aluminium foil
  • scissors
  • pen
  • stapler

First, draw the design you would like to have on the paper. Remember that small designs, with little detail, won''t finish very well, so it''s much better to keep the shapes simple. Once the design has been drawn, the making of the little model can begin. Tear off a piece of aluminium foil and fold it several times to get a strip a few centimetres thick. Then staple the edges of the foil together with a stapler and place on the drawn design. Follow the lines of the design and shape the foil until you have the desired shape. Your mould is now ready to bake your biscuits.

Aluminium moulds

You can, of course, make the moulds out of aluminium itself. These are a little more complicated to make than the first two methods we suggested, but the result will be much more durable moulds that can be used many times. You will need an aluminium plate and scissors. If you have a thin aluminium baking tray at home that you no longer need, you can, of course, use it as material for your models. As with the previous technique, you will need a strip of aluminium. Once you have the strip, you can shape it as you wish. You can use scissors, table edges, a ruler, etc. The last step is to glue the edges of the tape together. It is a good idea to use sheet metal glue or any glue that will hold the aluminium together. Then wash the resulting mould well under water to remove any glue particles and you can start shaping your biscuits.
