The craziest gifts

the craziest gifts

It''s clear that the craziest gifts are the ones that impress the most.

Special occasion gifts are always highly anticipated - the givers look forward to the wrapped surprises, and the givers eagerly await the expression of delight from the celebrant when he or she opens their gift. No wonder, then, that every year during the festive season at the end of autumn, the hunt is on for the most original, unusual and crazy gifts money can buy.

The shopping centres are full to the brim

Shopping centres are full to the brim with a variety of products that more or less delight, and practically every shop can boast its own bestsellers. But mass-produced gifts don''t really suit most shoppers - we want unique, special gifts. So every year we see new and unusual ideas, many of which are great gift ideas, and many of which are just plain crazy. History also confirms that when it comes to gift-giving, we are not limited to products that fit the commonsense idea of gift-giving.

The craziest gifts

One of the most famous, notable and iconic gifts is the monument, which is now one of the most recognised symbols on a global scale. It is, of course, the Statue of Liberty, which adorns the entrance to New York harbour. The statue, which is one of the main symbols of America today, was a gift from France, which in the nineteenth century wanted to express its affection for the United States and to honour its struggle for independence.

The Gardens of Babylon are a similarly monumental gift, which has also entered the list of wonders of the Old World. These were built as a gift to the wife of King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon, to make her forget her homesickness. We presume that the king succeeded in his aim, although we do not even know whether the Gardens of Babylon really existed. They would certainly have been a crazy gift.

Another one of the crazy gifts with an incredible historical story is the Trojan Horse, given by the Greeks to the Trojans as a sign of the end of their war with each other.

It was a ruse, of course, as the Greek soldiers hidden inside the wooden horse successfully broke through the city walls and opened the gates to their comrades at night, defeating their naive opponents.

More modern examples of crazy gifts are probably dominated by shamelessly rich parents who give their offspring outrageously expensive surprises. From gold cars, planes, houses, to entire cities! Interesting gift exchanges also occur when different cultures mix - Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi gave a herd of camels to Janez Drnovšek back in Yugoslavia, and a similar gift was given to then Prime Minister Borut Pahor in 2009, who gave an African a Lipizzaner in exchange for a pair of camels.

It is clear, then, that the craziest gifts are the ones that impress the most. For us mere mortals, the gifts described above are not affordable, but we can still afford some alternative to traditional gifts. Let''s browse the less frequented shops and speciality stores, where unique surprises are sure to delight every recipient. The right place for such gifts is surely a chocolate shop, where there are many chocolate products that are perfect for a crazy gift for a future occasion, whether it''s a birthday, a stag or hen party or just the annual festive season. There''s a wide range to choose from, proving that it''s always possible to find crazy gifts - check it out!
