Rajhenburg Castle
When?
Sunday 6 November 2016, 10.00-18.00
The Rajhenburg Chocolate and Liqueur Day will be organised for the second time this year at the Krško Cultural Centre, Rajhenburg Castle Unit. The event, which was very popular last year, is based on the rich heritage bequeathed by the Trappist monks to Brestanica, Posavje and the whole Slovenian region.
After the last renovation in 2010-2012, Rajhenburg Castle has been given an extremely attractive image, which is complemented by museum exhibitions and programmes, as well as music, theatre and film performances. One of the highlights is the museum''s presentation of the life and work of the Trappist monks who worked at the castle between 1881 and 1947. Older locals still remember the excellent chocolate, liqueurs and Trappist cheese produced by the monks. The Rajhenburg Trappists were the first industrial chocolate producers in Slovenia. They produced under the Imperial brand, which was granted to them by the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I himself. They were the imperial suppliers of both chocolate and liqueurs, which was the greatest recognition of the quality of their products. Their liqueurs were also highly valued and sold. They produced Cacao liqueur made from cocoa and Grande and Trapistin liqueurs made from medicinal herbs. Their products were on the shelves all over Europe.
The exhibitors will also add their own touch to its visibility with a wide range of chocolate productsand liqueurs.
The event will take place in the castle courtyard and in the basement and ground-floor rooms of Rajhenburg Castle. It is designed as a mix of expert lectures, presentations, tastings and sales of chocolate and liqueur products. The event will be further enlivened by various workshops for all generations.
Rajhenburg Castle is an outstanding cultural and historical monument. The exhibitors will also add their own touch to its visibility with a wide range of chocolateand liqueur products. It is our wish that the place that sent some of the finest chocolates to Europe at the beginning of the 20th century will once again come alive with the scents and flavours of exquisite chocolates and liqueurs.
You are cordially invited!
