chocolat imperial - slovenias first chocolate wine

Who would have thought that two ingredients as different as chocolate and wine could go so well together in a drink called Chocolate Wine.

The first chocolate wine

Who would have thought that two ingredients as different as chocolate and wine could go so well together in a drink called Chocolate Wine. Since 2013, Slovenians can also boast their first chocolate wine, produced by the House of Vine, Wine and Chocolate Kunej.

The Kunej family

The Kunej family, originally from Brestanica, has been involved in wine production for many years and in 2013 they started producing chocolate. Aleš Kunej is the fifth generation of his family to be involved in wine growing. While studying winemaking in France, he met a girl of Portuguese origin called Emanuela. She is a big chocolate fan and that is how it all started. Under the project "The Trappist influence on the rural areas of Posavje, acronym Trapistin", they started to produce various chocolate products, with the aim of reviving the Trappist heritage through new activities and products. They wanted to revive the Imperial chocolate once made by the Trappists. Chocolate production now takes place in the immediate vicinity of Rajhenburg Castle, which has recently been renovated.

They wanted to revive Imperial chocolate, once made by the Trappists.

It is true that the Kunej House of Vines, Wine and Chocolate produces a variety of high-quality wines, but it is only since they added Chocolat Imerial to their range that their visibility has grown considerably. Of course, it is important to remember that making such a wine requires a huge amount of knowledge, and that this knowledge comes from two different areas: winemaking and chocolatiers. Chocolat Imperial was, in fact, the chocolate brand of the Trappists in the past, who excelled at making chocolate and also made wine.

The recipe for the wine, of course, remains a secret, as it took them several months to discover the right relationship between wine and chocolate. It is a flavoured drink based on dark red wine to which dark chocolate is added. What makes it different from other chocolate wines around the world is that it does not contain any other additives, such as cream, and thus still has all the parameters of wine.

It is a really great, special product, which is why various chocolate museums in different parts of Europe are interested in it and we believe that the word will continue to spread.
