Who doesn''t like a kebab? Meat, vegetarian, vegan... There''s something for everyone. And we chocoholics are no exception.

You heard right, we''re introducing the chocolate kebab!

What does it look like?

It''s a sweet version of the familiar kebab that is becoming more and more popular around the world. The chocolate kebab, or choco kebab, resembles a real kebab only in shape, since it is actually chocolate wrapped in a pancake or tortilla and gently scraped off a rotating rack like meat.

Instead of slices of pork, veal, poultry or lamb, white, milk or dark chocolate is sliced thinly.

Where does it come from?

There are a few different stories about its origin, but the most well-known is that it comes from our western neighbour, Italy. An Italian man was visiting a friend in Germany after they had eaten kebabs and was looking for something to eat, but could not find anything that suited him at the time. He told his friend that there should be a dessert like, say, a kebab - quick and easy to prepare. And the idea of the Chokokebab was born.

Over the next few years, he developed his idea to perfection, which took him a long time to figure out how to prepare it, what ingredients he would need and what equipment he would need to prepare it. Nowadays, there are many different variations of chocolate kebabs, and more and more shops and travelling stands are opening up around the world offering this extremely tasty confection. In Slovenia too!

Can we make chocolate kebabs at home?

Of course, because it''s not that difficult to prepare. However, it should be borne in mind that the shops or stalls have specially adapted equipment for preparing it, so a chocolate kebab prepared at home may be slightly different - but it is undoubtedly delicious nonetheless!

Here are some tips on what to look out for when preparing it:

Regular kebabs have a soft but strong crust that holds the meat and the various accompaniments firmly together. The same goes for chocolate kebabs - we recommend toasting the tortillas, which should be soft and pliable, but firm enough to keep the sweet treats from falling out.

A regular meat kebab has meat inside, but its chocolate version can be filled with even more delicious ingredients. These can be as simple as wrapping melted chocolate or different types of chocolate in a tortilla, or you can top the divine chocolate flavour with fruit and ice cream, which are particularly useful on warmer days.

The extras - don''t skimp on them! The more extras you add to a regular kebab, the better it is, and the same goes for a chocolate kebab. Sprinkle coconut or nuts over the chocolate and fruit or ice cream, or add chocolate chips or your favourite crushed biscuits - for a quick dessert that''s crispy to boot!

No kebab is complete without a good sauce - whether it''s hot chilli sauce, garlic sauce, or simply just ketchup or mayonnaise, the sauce is the icing on the cake. But there are many more ways to make a chocolate kebab: you can complement the flavour with a simple strawberry, chocolate or caramel dessert topping, or add whipped cream to top it off. If you''re more adventurous, you can add a little bit of everything and enjoy the harmony of sweet flavours!
