I''m sure all of us know at least a pastry trick or two. But there''s bound to be one in this article that you won''t find in any cookery book. We''ve gathered five unusual pastry tricks that are sure to help.

Some of them are definitely slightly different and unusual, but they help nonetheless.

1. Place a slice of sponge bread on each layer of sponge cake

After baking the sponge cake or sponge cakes, place a slice of wheat bread on each baked layer. A slice of wheat bread will keep the cake layers juicy and the bread will become hard as a rock. It sounds rather strange, but who doesn''t love the juicy layer cake they get in return?

2. Cheesecake should be perfect!

Don''t even pour the cheesecake filling in the middle of the baking tray. Slowly pour it down one side and let it "naturally" spill out. This will result in a cheesecake without cracks. When the filling is poured in the middle, and done quickly, it puts pressure on a specific point, which can leave a crack. However, if you add the filling on the side and let it spread on its own, it will create an even layer.

3. Too dry cake?

This can also be solved. A simple syrup can turn a too dry cake into a juicy cake. Once the sponge cake is baked and cooled, make the simple syrup. Make it with half a cup of water and half a cup of sugar. Allow the water mixed with the sugars to boil gently, then leave to cool completely. All you have to do is brush the sugar solution on the sponge cake.

4. Frosting that has shine?

Yes, our cake icing will have a shine too. To give your cake icing a shine, you can use a hairdryer on medium heat on the outside of the cake (just before serving). Yes, it works! Hold the hairdryer about half the distance away from the cake.

5. Baked muffins, but without the "hat"?

All we have to do is lower the baking temperature slightly and increase the weight in the paper cases and bake the muffins a little longer. For example, if the muffins were baked at 180°C for 22 minutes, with 2/3 full liners, in this case bake the muffins at 160°C for 25 minutes, with 3/4 full muffin tins.
