tips for making homemade chocolate bars

This time, how about making your own chocolate bar at home for a change?

This time, how about making your own chocolate bar at home for a change? Not only is it super easy to prepare, a homemade chocolate bar can be the perfect sweet gift for your loved ones. The best thing about homemade chocolate is that you can sprinkle it with anything you like, from nuts, dried and candied fruits to cookies. So the chocolate will be just the way you want it.

Chocolate moulds

The good thing about this is that you don''t need special, expensive moulds to make the bars. If you have a mould, then of course use one, but if not, almost any plastic container will do. For example, if you still have some plastic ice-cream tubs at home, these could be your models for the bars.

Tempering chocolate

When making bars, it is a good idea to temper thechocolate . True, it may take a little more time, but believe me, it will pay off. Untempered chocolate results in grey spots that do not look very attractive, especially if you want to give the chocolate to someone as a gift. The process is actually quick and easy. First, heat the chocolate, making sure that it does not get hotter than 50 degrees. You can read more about tempering in our article on tempering.

Additives

You really have a free hand when it comes to the additives on your chocolate. You can sprinkle whatever you like on it. Just be careful when adding fresh fruit. Usually this doesn''t work out so well, as the fruit builds up moisture quickly, so you need to eat the chocolate quickly.

If you want to add some flavour to the chocolate, you can add a few drops of peppermint, lemon juice or a few drops of oil to the mix. Please note that you should not add anything containing alcohol or water, as this will cause the chocolate to foam up and make it unusable.

Short recipe for making a precise chocolate bar

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2-3 teaspoons (to taste) maple syrup or honey
  • pinch of salt
In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients well so that there are no lumps in the mixture. Then pour the mixture into the moulds and allow it to set. Before it hardens, you can sprinkle the desired sprinkles on top. The chocolate can then be stored in the fridge.
